I remember when my kids were in preschool and kindergarten. The teacher put out pre reading toys. They needed to sort things by size and color. Then they moved to setting up block shapes to match a printed card. After that they matched letters to printed cards that spelled basic words. There was a process a progression that led them to a skill.
The teachers would check the skill levels diagnostically , not critically, to see where the child needed more practice to bring them up to where they needed to be to advance to reading.
I think that is what God was trying to tell us in scripture, especially when He said let patience do its perfect work.
So I have come to think of maturity in a situation as comprehending God's diagnostics and co-operating with the transformation process, because of His great love and grace to me.
I am thinking that is about dying to self and self ignorance and letting the paradigm shift happen. To be a real child of God. To be the light in the dark.
