Today was about Exodus 20:18-21: 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die." 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
Oswald faults them a bit for choosing to follow a man instead of directly from God. The text says they were afraid of the demonstration of God. Moses tells them it is to test you that fear might keep you from sinning.
Moses was raised more royally in the house of Pharaoh, to face fear and act nobelly. The people were raised as slaves for 400 years. Fear is how they were driven. God was in not only doing His process to take them out of the land but to take that land out of them. The mentality of most of them was more childlike. Like children they would need to be trained to obey their Father . That was in their best interest because they new little else but slavery.
I think when God came fiercely the children of God would be afraid to face what they feared. It was their choice not to face it. Their fear was defining them. The first time they got to the edge of the Promised land they were afraid of Giants even though God was with them. After forty years of wandering in the desert their children faced many thing and learned to overcome many of their fears. The second time the tribe faced the promised land they turned to God and asked how. Facing their fear and obeying God brought victory on the outside and proved what God had forged on the inside.
I pray form this day forward I face my doubts and fears . I ask you God How Now do I live, Amen
