I thought this was about a love relationship? If I am obeying then someone gave a command. This is the language of control that the world uses. I have read up on the beginning of religion and it was always about control. Apparently they never trusted God to be at work in people, so created more rules and the language of control. Moses Got what the religious call the 10 commandments. I thought they were a plum line. If you cross over one of these wise statement you are no longer in right relationship so change direction. The Father of us all desires all His children to be kind and respectful of each other. What do good parents want for their children on earth, probably good character.
In my relationship with Jesus I have been experiencing something else. He has imparted certain wisdoms that I adhere to. You could call that obedience but then that takes it somewhere else.
My Holy Spirit counsels and when I adhere to that wisdom it works well when I don't it comes with consequences I could have avoided. That is my learning curve.
In our relationship we talk about stuff and come to an agreement. I act on what we agreed on. I might add here He is always right . The talks are for my benefit to get on the same page with Him. When we are in agreement the power of heaven comes behind what we do.
The point of creation was relationship to God . He love us and He woos us to love Him in return. How do you fall in love with someone who orders you around and inflicts sickness and pain. Kill, steal, destroy and inflict pain belong to the kingdom of the other guy.
There is much sick in the world that He would like to make well but He is not going to do it without us.
Set your heart to search for what is to love about your God. Maybe just that He loved you first and gave His life to take the punishment that humans think needs to be inflicted on things and people they don't agree with.
I consider it a sufficient payment for all.
