We were not brought into the family of God to be good christians. We were sought after to be children of God and to enter a relationship with them, Father ,Son and Holy Spirit. One point to make is, even the best children misbehave sometimes. I am certainly not one of the best children . I do love my Father in heaven and I don't want to break myself away from our loving relationship. Human nature is always at work to tempt up into an I can do it myself mode. I think that started when we were two.
I am recognizing more and more my sensitivity to His heart and Joy in my life. It is this trusted relationship that helps me surrender willingly to His way of doing things in this family. Transformation is a heart issue. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. If you want to have your flesh mature, which is your soul, you need to engage it in relationship so it will care to engage in a transformative way of doing things. It is said , people don't care what you think until they think you care, I think it works the same way with our relationship to our soul and us to God.
In psalm 25 David cries out to God "Teach me your ways". In the new testament the people who followed after Jesus teachings were called the People of the way. I think religion really missed it by making things a set of rules instead of a relationship where you experience a way of doing things , way of living that gets you that heavenly fruit of an abundant life. A life filled with love, joy, peace and fulfillment.
I think this is the dying to the self part. We have to let go of our way. Let go of the way we are used to doing things. and do it His way. I am joining David in teach me your ways Father. By the way David wasn't a perfect kid either.
